Self tapping screws are made to make a hole of themselves in things made of plastic, wood and metal. But this does not mean that it is automated, it still needs and instrument to fulfill its purpose and that instrument is called the screwdriver. To attach two separate materials, these tools are usually used. In households, they are used to attach doors and windows to the frame and sometimes used for roofing.

This is also use for equipments that need to be maintained from time to time. There are certain equipments that are to be dismantled before you can starts the cleaning routine. These are also used for materials which are repairable like laptops and cellular phones. This is to say that disposable materials are not attached by these.

There are two types of these, the thread forming which only make a hole by deforming the material and the thread cutting which cuts some parts for its pathway to insure security. The former usually used for malleable materials such as plastic. But be careful in using this for pressure might damage the product. Be sure that upon using it, you can handle the tightness.

While the latter is used for hard metals and woods for the former will just break into these materials. This is good somehow but the idea of diminishing the quality of the material sounds a bit hurtful especially if the wood is expensive. And the ugly truth is that it loosens by the time comes especially if you keep the maintenance. And the remedy for this is worse because you have to purchase new and bigger screw t maintain the tightness.

Both screws are prone from stripping, to prevent this, you have to purchase a metal insert and put it under the head of the screw. In this way there is no need to buy for another larger one if you will do the assembling. They are made to minimize stress from the material and from the screw. This insert is very important especially when installing wheels for cabinets.

Look for the head of these, notice that there ones which are bulge headed and the other one is flat headed. Bulge headed are good for those who needs easy and fast access to the screw, this works on engines and machinery. The flat one ideal for surfaces which need to be flat like the hinged from the doors and cabinets, the computed table and some gadgets.

As you notice, there are line holes on the head of the screw. These vary depending on what type of screwdriver you got. The one with an x need a philip drive that has a corresponding x shape tips. This is most people are buying because it can just be ran by a flat driver in emergency cases. The flat screw is usually used for thing which need to be very tight and difficult to be opened or detached.

Also be mindful with the length of the tips of the screw. They vary depending on how deep you need to use it. If you think that the material is thin, then by something with short tip.

Self tapping screws are there for security and safety. But if they are misused, they could cause harm to anyone. Just be cautious even if you have not yet purchased then product or even if you already successfully attached them.
