One of the major sources for information is public records. Public records such as births, deaths, marriages and divorces contain information about the person and can serve as their supporting documents. Records such as arrest, police, and incidents are also important as they serve as background information on the person. Although such records are available to the public, some records such as Arizona arrest records are limited to the public and can only be accessed by authorized agencies.

For those who want a copy of public arrest records, there are several ways to do so. Researchers can send their request via online, walk in, standard mail and through fax. All requests must be made in writing or submitted online using the site's Public Records Request Form. All requests once processed will generate an invoice and this will be sent to the person requesting the records via USPS, email or fax.

Payment is convenient as the Office accepts several forms of payment including cashier's checks, money order, or business checks. The Office is not authorized to accept personal checks as payment. Once the payment is received, the records will be sent to the person. Processing will take about 20 days starting from the time the Office receives the request. The Office does not accept any walk in; however, a person can submit or drop their request at the public counter. All records are checked and reviewed before the Document's Custodian for any errors.

Fee schedule differs depending on the media format that the researcher requests. A nine pager can cost about $9 with each succeeding page costing $1 each. For copies in DVD/CD format, the cost is $25. For audio cassettes, cost is $5. Thumbnail sheets cost $10, and photographs of 8 x 10 cost $35 each. Researchers have the chance to review the records by making an appointment with the Custodian of the Documents. Once the review is done and everything is okay, one can proceed and purchase the records.

To request for one's criminal history record, one can check out the Criminal History Records Section of the State. The Records section serves as the Central Repository of all criminal records of the State. The request is free in Arizona and all one has to do is to download a copy of the Records Review Packet available from the State's website, fill up the packet and send in the packet. Processing would take about two weeks and results will be sent to the person's address.

For people who are in a hurry and want to do background checks or arrest search records, they can check out several sites online that provide public record searches. Some sites offer free services for basic report and charge minimal amount for the full record. This is the fastest way for one to retrieve information and as the search sites usually allow one to make bulk searches for a minimal fee, one can save on one's time as well. This is the best option for those who regularly make background checks, as it is easier, faster as well as affordable.
